Speaker 1:

Welcome everyone to today's episode of the Healing Journey. I'm your host, daniel, the Bud Nelson, and I'm so glad you're here with me. Today we're diving into something deeply personal Sobriety, healing and the unexpected role that food played in my recovery. I know many of you listening might be dealing with some heavy emotions, like resentment, on your journey. Let me tell you, I've been there. I understand how much it can weigh you down.

Speaker 1:

When I first decided to get sober, I was filled with a mix of determination and fear. I realized I had a lot of unresolved resentment towards others, myself, even towards life in general. I knew that to truly heal, I had to confront these feelings and find healthy ways to release them. It wasn't easy, but one of the things that helped me was making a big lifestyle change, starting with what I put in my body. One recipe that became a staple for me was the liver-loving salad from my 77 green recipes for sobriety and healing book. It's a sample mix that includes baby spinach, sliced beets, radishes, avocado and fresh parsley, topped with a bit of lemon juice and olive oil. This salad isn't just about eating your greens. It's about nurturing your body with ingredients to support detoxification and healing, particularly for the liver, which often bears the brunt of our past habits. You know, it wasn't about the food itself, it was about the ritual.

Speaker 1:

Preparing these meals, knowing they were helping me cleanse from the inside out, gave me a sense of control and purpose. It became a form of self-care, almost like a meditation. Every meal that prepared was a step towards my health and well-being, a reminder that I was choosing life and healing over pain and numbness. Resentment though, that was a tough one. I realized that holding on to it was like drinking poison and expecting someone else to suffer. It wasn't until I started practicing mindfulness and self-forgiveness that I noticed the weight lifting. I would meditate, journal and even just take long walks to clear my mind. Just take long walks to clear my mind. These practices, combined with a nurturing diet, help me face my emotions without being overwhelmed.

Speaker 1:
